3 Things learnt from Chelsea 5-0 win over Wrexham.
Chelsea started their preseason with an emphatic win over league two side Wrexham in their US tour where they scored five goals and conceded none. Ian Maatsen, an academy graduate was the man of the match after scoring two goals in first half and had a nine point rating throughout the match. Chilwell and Gallagher both scored once while debutant Christopher Nkunku was on the score sheet too on his first game in blue shirt without forgetting Nicolas Jackson also had an assist on his debut where fans were pleased by the striker and termed it as an instant Kai Havertz upgrade.
First thing noted on this match is that Pochettino himself was happy with the squad attitude and made some comments on it that he was happy with the performance and the attitude and there is a lot to improve although it’s a process the club is in a learning period on how they want to play and also be in good physical condition before the league starts. Despite the large squad, Pochettino added that everyone needs to be tested.
The new young debutants could actually be left to stay in the club to integrate with the first squad instead of being sent to loan. Andrey Santos, Maatsen and Casadei all got the praise from the fans and in the start they were thought they could be sent to loan next season but if Chelsea doesn’t sign Caicedo and explore options for Mount replacement definitely they will have to stay. When Pochettino was asked about them first he praised them and added they need time but their profile is good.
Finally, Pochettino is clear that he is ready to work with anybody in the team you just got to prove your worth in the team as he added that don’t forget this is Chelsea. This statement came after the coach was asked about the challenges on having a big squad. Pochettino also added that every Chelsea game is an official game reflecting that this preseason period will determine most of the players playing time. Chelsea will return to action on 23rd this month against Brighton. Do you think Pochettino will continue with his preseason winning streak?
