No. 1-Ranked American Football Recruit Chooses Ohio State Over Tennessee and Florida

In one of the most anticipated decisions of the 2025 college football recruiting cycle, the nation’s top-ranked high school football player has officially committed to Ohio State University, choosing the Buckeyes over SEC powerhouses Tennessee and Florida.

Jayden “Jet” Wallace, a five-star quarterback out of Houston, Texas, made the announcement on Friday afternoon in front of a packed gymnasium filled with family, friends, coaches, and media outlets. The ceremony, which was broadcast live on ESPN, ended with Wallace pulling out an Ohio State cap from a black duffle bag, signaling his future home.

“This decision was one of the toughest in my life,” Wallace said. “I’ve been blessed with offers from incredible programs, and I have nothing but love for the coaches at Tennessee and Florida. But when it came down to it, Ohio State felt like the best fit for my future — both on and off the field.”

Wallace has been the consensus No. 1 player in the country for months, known for his explosive dual-threat ability, precision passing, and elite football IQ. Last season, he led his high school to a 14-0 record, throwing for over 4,200 yards and 45 touchdowns while rushing for an additional 1,100 yards and 17 scores. His play has drawn comparisons to current NFL stars such as Caleb Williams and Lamar Jackson.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day praised Wallace’s commitment in a brief statement released after the announcement.

“Jayden is a rare talent and a true leader,” Day said. “We’re beyond excited to welcome him to the Buckeye family. His work ethic, character, and competitive spirit are everything we look for in a quarterback.”

Ohio State’s quarterback room has already been considered among the most competitive in the country, but Wallace’s addition adds a new level of depth and firepower. He is expected to enroll early and participate in spring camp, setting the stage for a potential starting job as early as his freshman year.

Recruiting experts called the decision a major win for the Big Ten school.

“This is a program-changing commitment,” said 247Sports recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong. “Ohio State just secured the most dynamic player in the country, and that momentum is going to carry into the rest of their recruiting class.”

The decision came as a disappointment to both Tennessee and Florida, who were widely believed to be serious contenders for Wallace’s signature. Florida, in particular, had made a strong push in recent weeks, with head coach Billy Napier visiting Wallace and his family multiple times. Tennessee had also been in the mix after hosting Wallace on an official visit earlier this summer.

Still, Wallace insisted the choice wasn’t about other schools falling short — it was about what Ohio State offered.

“It’s just the place where I felt I belonged,” he said. “The culture, the coaching staff, the history — it all just clicked.”

With the commitment now official, Ohio State fans can start dreaming of what’s next. And for the rest of college football, the message is clear: the Buckeyes just landed

the future of their program.
