Bill Parcells, Legendary NFL Coach and Two-Time Super Bowl Champion, Passes Away at 83
The football world is mourning the loss of one of its most iconic figures. Bill Parcells, the legendary Hall of Fame coach who left an indelible mark on multiple NFL franchises — including the New York Jets — has passed away at the age of 83.
Parcells, affectionately known as “The Big Tuna,” was more than just a coach. He was a transformational leader who revitalized struggling teams, instilled a culture of discipline, and earned the unwavering respect of players, peers, and fans alike. His death was confirmed Tuesday morning by his family in a statement, calling him “a beloved father, mentor, and titan of the game.”
A two-time Super Bowl champion with the New York Giants, Parcells later took the reins of the Jets in 1997, turning a 1-15 team into AFC contenders within two seasons. In 1998, he led New York to a 12-4 record and a spot in the AFC Championship Game — a remarkable turnaround that remains a proud chapter in Jets history.
Parcells was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013 and, most recently, had been announced as an inductee into the Patriots Hall of Fame earlier this month.
Beyond football, Parcells was known for his loyalty to former players and his generosity — having quietly lent millions to those in need.
The NFL community has begun pouring out tributes for a man who changed the game and left a lasting legacy of toughness, heart, and excellence.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.
