Chelsea agree a deal worth £58m to sign Southampton’s Midfielder Romeo Lavia.
Chelsea have agreed a permanent deal to sign Belgian Midfielder Romeo Lavia from Southampton for a deal worth £53m fixed fee plus £5m in add-ons. Romeo Lavia will sign a seven years contract at Chelsea with an option for another season. Chelsea beat off competition from Liverpool for the Belgian teenager.
Liverpool had already agreed a £60m fee with Southampton for the midfielder,but the young Belgian rejected Liverpool to join Chelsea. This is the second time Chelsea have beaten Liverpool for another player,as they signed Caicedo from Brighton despite Liverpool agreeing a deal in principle with Brighton for the Midfielder.
Romeo Lavia left Manchester City last summer to join Southampton, as Manchester city included a buy-back clause in his deal which was valid until 2024. Romeo Lavia move to Chelsea means that the buy-back clause is no longer valid.
