Eto’o under investigation over alleged match fixing.

Eto’o under investigation after police in Cameroon opened a case for him.

The president of Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o is under investigation by police in Cameroon over claims that Eto’o was involved in a match fixing scandal. The former Barcelona star have denied that he helped to fix matches in a second division tier in his country.

The incident happened in July where a recording leaked where he was talking to someone alleged to be the president of Victoria United football club. The recording stated that he would help them gain promotion by manipulating matches. The two have denied that it was not their voices on the recording. The police have confirmed that they have opened investigation into alleged “abuse of power and corruption.” The investigations could reach several accused person up to 40 people.

The leaked recording Eto’o is alleged to have told Victoria United president “there are things we can do but you have to be very discreet, brother. Don’t worry we will give you the three points and we will suspend the referee. Opopo [Victoria United nickname ] must go up to the first division. This is our goal. This is our federation. Victoria will go up.” The club went on to be promoted in April.

The group accusing Eto’o and action taken.

A group of Cameroon officials have called on FIFA to take action against Eto’o after a series of public incidents erupted including the Qatar saga where he violently encountered an Algerian journalist at the world cup. The president of Professional Football League has written a letter to FIFA and CAF questioning how Eto’o had been allowed to continue to illegally impose himself as the Fecafoot president.

CAF opened investigation for the Cameroonian while FIFA hasn’t yet said anything regarding the situation.
