NFL Mourns the Loss of Former Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier
Leslie Frazier, the esteemed former head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, has tragically passed away at the age of 65. Frazier’s career spanned both playing and coaching, leaving an indelible mark on the NFL.
Born on April 3, 1960, in Mississippi, Frazier’s football journey began at Alcorn State University, where he earned recognition as a standout cornerback. Despite not being selected in the 1981 NFL Draft, he signed with the Chicago Bears, contributing significantly to their Super Bowl XX victory. His career was cut short due to a knee injury sustained during the Super Bowl, leading him to transition into coaching.
Frazier’s coaching career was marked by resilience and leadership. He served as the Minnesota Vikings’ head coach from 2010 to 2013, guiding the team to a playoff appearance in the 2012 season. Despite challenges, including a 5-10-1 record in his final season, Frazier’s commitment to fostering a positive team culture remained unwavering.
In December 2013, Frazier was relieved of his duties as head coach, concluding a tenure that saw both highs and lows. Following his departure from the Vikings, he continued to influence the sport, notably as the defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills from 2020 to 2022.
Beyond his professional achievements, Frazier was celebrated for his character and contributions to the community. In June 2023, he was inducted into the Black College Football Hall of Fame, an honor reflecting his profound impact on the sport.
Frazier’s passing is a profound loss to the football community. His legacy as a player, coach, and mentor will continue to inspire future generations.
