Phillies Land Ace Kevin Gausman on Two-Year Deal to Bolster Rotation
The Philadelphia Phillies have made a major addition to their pitching staff, agreeing to a two-year contract with All-Star right-hander Kevin Gausman, sources confirmed Wednesday. The deal is reportedly worth $XX million (financial terms yet to be disclosed), reinforcing the Phillies’ commitment to strengthening their rotation as they continue their push for a World Series title.
Gausman, 33, spent the past two seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, where he solidified himself as one of baseball’s premier pitchers. In 2023, he posted a 3.16 ERA with 237 strikeouts over 185.1 innings, earning his second career All-Star selection. Known for his devastating splitter and elite strikeout ability, Gausman gives Philadelphia another high-caliber arm alongside Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola.
Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski praised the acquisition, calling Gausman “a difference-maker” in the rotation. “Kevin has been one of the most consistent pitchers in the league, and we believe his presence will help us compete for a championship,” Dombrowski said.
Gausman’s signing comes as the Phillies aim to bolster their staff after a deep playoff run last season. With Ranger Suárez and Taijuan Walker rounding out the rotation, Philadelphia now boasts one of the most formidable pitching units in the National League.
Gausman was originally drafted fourth overall by the Baltimore Orioles in 2012 and has played for the Braves, Giants, and Blue Jays during his career. He holds a career ERA of 3.86 with over 1,500 strikeouts across 11 MLB seasons.
With Spring Training just around the corner, Phillies fans can expect Gausman to make an immediate impact as the team eyes another postseason push.
