Romeo Lavia to Join Chelsea after rejecting Liverpool.
Chelsea to complete the signing of Belgian Midfielder Romeo Lavia from Southampton for a £60m fee.
Romeo Lavia becomes the second player this summer transfer to reject Liverpool, despite respective clubs agreeing a transfer deal. Moisés Caicedo rejected Liverpool too despite them agreeing a record transfer fee with Brighton,to join Chelsea. Chelsea and Liverpool have been chasing Lavia this summer, but Southampton were not willing to let go that easily unless, their £50m valuation was met. Chelsea will pay a fee around £60m including add ons for the Belgian.
Romeo Lavia have already agreed personal deal with the Blues for a longterm contract. Lavia will undergo medical tomorrow in London and sign his contract as new Chelsea player. He joins Moises Caicedo who became the most expensive player in premier league history after completing his switch to Stamford Bridge in a deal worth £125m.
Lavia joined Southampton last summer from Manchester City in a deal worth £15m. Chelsea were tempted to make a move for the Belgian Midfielder in January window transfer, but Southampton were relactant to sell as they were fighting relegation.
Lavia signing was the reason why Chelsea left the discussion to sign Tyler Adams from Leeds. With the arrival of Moisés Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, Chelsea will allow Lesley Ugochukwu to leave on Loan. The young french defensive midfielder is wanted by Chelsea co-team Racing Strasbourg.
Romeo Arrival may also be bad news to young Brazilian Andrey Santos who was supposed to remain at Chelsea this season.Chelsea is not playing continental football this season, hence as Mauricio Pochettino have insisted they need to trim their squad. A loan move for Santos will be great to help him develop more.
