Roosters duo stepped down; scans reveal Laybutt’s worst case scenario in the NRL Casualty Ward.
The 22-year-old will miss the rest of the 2024 season following surgery in the upcoming weeks.
At Cbus Super Stadium, Kieran Foran of the Titans was sidelined by an ankle injury during the first half.
“My own player tripped over my ankle. “I hope the damage isn’t too severe,” Foran stated following the game.
“It feels alright now but I just couldn’t get it going and we decided to take the cautious approach with it.”
After Friday’s loss to the Bulldogs, both halfback Sam Walker and captain James Tedesco were declared Category 1 HIA, meaning they will miss the Roosters’ Round 6 match against the Knights.
Tedesco and Walker will now be subject to the 11-day concussion stand-down mandated by the NRL.
On Sunday, representative forward Corey Horsburgh had a slight groin strain, which dealt a blow to the Raiders as well.
Horsburgh will be evaluated this week before the Titans game on Sunday, the team announced on Monday.
Despite aggravating a pre-existing knee injury against the Eels, Raiders fullback Jordan Rapana was still able to play the entire game on the field. This week, the club’s medical team will also evaluate him.
In the final five minutes of the Dolphins’ game against the Tigers, Herbie Farnworth was pulled off the field due to an injury to his AC joint, one of many injuries sustained by the team.
Moving forward Felise Kaufusi abandoned the game early due to an apparent hamstring injury, and Tom Flegler also left the field early due to an AC joint problem.
After the game, coach Wayne Bennett stated, “We know what the injuries are, but not the severity of them just yet.”
“AC joints can be pretty bad if you get good one, I think he’s (Farnworth) got a good one, so sometimes they have to operate on them, so we will just have to see.”
Due to John Bateman’s HIA failure, the Wests Tigers were forced to play the second half of their game against the Dolphins without him.
With 15 minutes remaining in the second half, rookie Latu Fainu also exited the field due to a strained hamstring. Tigers forward Samuela Fainu was also declared out due to a Category 1 head hit in the second half.
With 13 minutes remaining in the Panthers’ game against the Sea Eagles, coach Ivan Cleary substituted Jarome Luai off the field as a precaution after he appeared to have taken a knock to his knee.
During their match on Saturday night, both teams lost players to head injuries; Reuben Garrick and Liam Henry were judged to have shown HIA Category 1 symptoms.
Henry was knocked down in the 33rd minute, while Garrick was knocked down in the third minute while trying to make a tackle. Neither player was able to make a comeback.
Bulldogs fullback Blake Taaffe failed his HIA on Friday, but prop Chris Patolo was out for just 12 minutes with a shoulder injury, Connor Tracey persevered despite a calf ailment, and teammate Kurt Mann continued to play despite a fractured hand.
Harrison Edwards was also forced by the Dogs to leave the field in a medicab due to a neck injury.
Blake Wilson (sickness), Josh Addo-Carr (concussion), and Jacob Preston (jaw) were already out of the Bulldogs lineup.
Lachlan Ilias, the Rabbitohs’ backup halfback, is expected to miss a significant amount of time due to a suspected catastrophic leg injury he sustained when trying a kick in the last seconds of the team’s NSW Cup victory over the Warriors.
Star back-rower Tyson Frizell is “no chance” to play for the Knights in their Round 6 matchup against the Roosters, according to coach Adam O’Brien. Frizell was ruled out of Friday night’s victory against the Dragons due to a hamstring injury
