Sezer Named as Hull FC Captain for 2025

Hull FC has confirmed that Aidan Sezer will take over the role of team captain for the 2025 season, marking a new chapter in the club’s leadership as they look to build on their recent successes and continue to challenge for silverware.

Sezer, who joined Hull FC in 2023 from the NRL’s Canberra Raiders, has established himself as one of the Super League’s premier halfbacks, known for his strong leadership, playmaking ability, and experience at the highest level of rugby league. The 31-year-old Australian will take over from the departing Luke Gale, who led the team in 2024.

The decision to appoint Sezer as captain was confirmed by Hull FC head coach, Tony Smith, who praised Sezer’s maturity, experience, and understanding of the game as key factors in his selection. Smith also acknowledged Sezer’s ability to bring out the best in his teammates, something that will be crucial as the club embarks on a new season with high expectations.

“We believe Aidan has all the qualities we need in a captain,” said Smith. “He’s an experienced player who has played at the top level in both the NRL and Super League, and his leadership both on and off the field is second to none. He leads by example with his work ethic, his calmness under pressure, and his ability to manage the game. We’re excited to have him as our captain for 2025.”

Sezer’s appointment also represents a shift in Hull FC’s leadership strategy, with the club looking to build a strong and balanced team culture. The halfback has been known for his consistent performances and for stepping up in critical moments, both of which were pivotal in his rise to the captaincy.

Reflecting on his new role, Sezer expressed his pride and determination to lead the club in what promises to be an exciting season. “It’s a huge honor to be named captain of Hull FC,” Sezer said in a statement. “The club has a rich history, and the fans are passionate and loyal. I’m looking forward to working with the coaching staff and the team to continue our progress and to push for success in 2025.”

Hull FC has been making steady progress under Tony Smith, and Sezer’s leadership is expected to help guide the team to even greater heights. The club has been in the hunt for major trophies in recent years but has yet to reach the pinnacle of Super League glory since their last Challenge Cup victory in 2017.

The decision to appoint Sezer was also welcomed by several of his teammates, who have recognized his ability to lead through example. Forward Scott Taylor praised Sezer’s influence in the dressing room, describing him as a natural leader. “Aidan has been fantastic since he arrived at Hull, and he’s earned the respect of everyone in the squad,” Taylor said. “He’s the kind of guy who doesn’t have to say much – his actions speak louder than words, and that’s exactly what we need from our captain.”

Sezer’s leadership will be tested early in the 2025 season as Hull FC faces off against some of the Super League’s top teams. With a strong roster around him, including key players like Adam Swift and Jake Connor, Sezer will have the support needed to take the club to new heights.

As Hull FC looks ahead to a competitive season, all eyes will be on Sezer as he takes on the responsibility of leading his side to success in 2025. Fans are hopeful that the Australian halfback can help steer the club toward the ultimate goal of lifting silverware once again.
