3 under-appreciated, small guards who might end up being the next Jalen Brunson

Before Jalen Brunson was an All-NBA gamer and Finals MVP, he was a 2nd round choice that nobody offered a possibility at being a star. When you truly dig deep, that franchise gamer was constantly there. He was an extremely efficient college gamer, who won 2 championship games in his 3 years at Villanova.

And considered that the NBA is a copycat league, everybody is now trying to find the next Brunson– an under-appreciated, small guard who can assist alter the trajectory of their company. As with all the greats, Brunson is distinctive. Searching for the next variation of him is(most likely )useless. If there is another late-bloomer waiting for their opportunity, these 3 guys are most likely the most likely prospects.Payton PritchardWe could not do a workout like this without consisting of Payton Pritchard. And of all these guys, he’s the one who will address this concern the fastest. After trading away Jaylen Brown, the Boston Celtics bet that Pritchard would have the ability to fill deep space as Robin to Jayson Tatum’s Batman. The similarties in between Brunson and Pritchard are extraordinary. Both small guards, who have actually been ignored for their absence of size and athleticism. Both are courageous and tremendously proficient. Both masters of playing off of 2 feet. Last season, Pritchard balanced 13.2 more points per 100 belongings on real shooting that was 4 percent greater when Brown was off the flooring. These numbers are clear indications that he is more than simply a bench stimulate plug and can scale his volume up while keeping (or, in Pritchard’s case, enhancing) his performance. Now, Pritchard will get the opportunity to live life without Brown full-time. Let’s see if he can take the leap the Celtics are wishing. Jase Richardson

After being picked with the 25th total choice in the 2025 NBA Draft, Jase Richardson did a great deal of absolutely nothing his novice year. In 54 video games(absolutely no starts), Richardson tallied 4.4 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.1 helps on 57.4 percent real shooting in 10.9 minutes per contest.

None of this screams future star, however his college pedigree (ring a bell)is something we can’t ignore. To date, just 7 freshman guards published a Box Plus-Minus over 10 while dipping into least 15 video games(per Bart Torvik ). Richardson is among them(duh). The other 6 are James Harden, Trae Young, D’Angelo Russell, Marcus Smart, Lonzo Ball and Reed Sheppard. All of those guys have actually shown to be quality NBA guards. Harden, Young, and Russell have actually all made All-Star elections. Harden is likewise a previous MVP. Ball is among the self-proclaimed biggest what-ifs in NBA history. As for the Brunson parallels, Richardson is likewise a crafty southpaw, who relies more on speed and accuracy than speed and verticality. It most likely will not take place, however if Richardson ends up being a star, it alters whatever for the Orlando Magic.Tyler Kolek

Remember that episode of “True Detective” where Martin Hart(played by Woody Harrelson)speak about the investigator’s curse? “The solution was right under my nose, but I was paying attention to the wrong clues?”Well, what if the next Brunson is currently on his group? Tyler Kolek checks a great deal of the exact same boxes that Brunson did– lefty, undersized, excellent with the ball in his hands, systematic– however since of his star colleague, he hasn’t truly had the opportunity to spread his wings (balancing simply 9.9 minutes

per video game over the very first 2 years of his profession).

In the greatest video game of his expert life, Kolek dropped 14 points and 5 helps in 20 minutes of action, boasting a plus-14 in the New York Knicks’ 11-point NBA Cup Final success over the San Antonio Spurs. After that, he inexplicably fell out of the rotation. What occurs when Kolek lastly gets a genuine possibility to spread his wings?
