Anne Hathaway issues an apology for ‘horrifying’ moment she ordered around photographers on the red carpet at Verity premiere and says she was in ‘mom mode’

Anne Hathaway has apologised for the ‘horrifying’ moment she directed a group of red carpet photographers on how to get the best shot.

A clip of the star, who is heavily pregnant with her third child, went viral last week when she was seen ordering around the snappers at the New York premiere of her new movie Verity. 

Anne, 43, was seen taking charge as she enthusiastically directed photographers while posing with her co-stars Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett.

The Oscar winner has now admitted she went ‘into mom mode’.

During her appearance on The Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon told her he was going to play the viral video, prompting a red-faced Anne to say: ‘I know exactly what you’re going to show and it’s horrifying, it is the stuff of nightmares.’

‘You kind of went into mom mode,’ Jimmy admitted. ‘It was mom mode by way of chorus line,’ agreed Anne. 

‘I was trying to be helpful,’ she explained. ‘There were so many of us and the photographers were getting upset, and the vibe was changing.’

She confessed that ‘as soon as [she] was done’, her first thought was, “Oh, no”.

‘I was doing it because I was trying to get them their picture but when I was done I was like “but there’s also video!” And I went into a full cringe crouch from inside.’ 

‘I apologise everybody. That girl came out to play last night. Actually, she didn’t come to play. She came for business,’ Anne laughed.

The viral clip also featured Anne’s co-star Dakota Johnson getting impatient. 

While Anne shouted her instructions, Dakota, 37, did a small jig on the spot before sweetly touching Anne’s bump.

Anne then said: ‘OK everybody ready? We are going to start from the left and then we can make our way that way.’

Pointing emphatically, she said: ‘We are going to start here and then we are going to do what Josh said.’ Dakota then said: ‘Then I’m going to leave.’

Dakota and Anne have forged a playful relationship during filming for Verity and the subsequent press tour.

The steamy film features a lot of kissing across the main trio, including an ultimately improvised make-out between Anne and Dakota which was featured in the film’s trailer.

Anne recently joked with Extra TV: ‘It’s a miracle nobody got sick,’ and Dakota said she would ‘kiss Hathaway for the rest of her life if possible’.

Anne stars as the best-selling author Verity Crawford in the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel.

Dakota plays Lowen Ashleigh – a struggling writer hired to complete the remaining books in Verity’s successful series after a mysterious accident leaves her debilitated, while Josh plays Verity’s devoted husband Jeremy Crawford.

Once Lowen begins work at the couple’s opulent estate, she discovers an unfinished manuscript that threatens to reveal dark secrets about Verity and her husband’s pasts.

The young writer is forced to continue her work for Jeremy while trying to determine if the writings are merely fiction, or a disturbing warning from a dangerous woman.

The film topped the US box office during its opening weekend, earning $32.6million and beating Tom Cruise’s panned release Digger.
