Ekiti police arrest 5 over alleged assault and public humiliation of woman accused of witchcraft

The Ekiti State Police Command has actually detained 5 individuals over supposed conspiracy, cyberstalking, cyberbullying and attack occasioning damage versus a lady in Agbado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

According to the declaration, the arrests followed a petition gotten by the command on September 22, 2026, from Funmilayo Omoyajowo, a citizen of Ishorun Street, Agbado-Ekiti.

The petitioner declared that the occurrence took place on June 20, 2026, at about 8 a.m., when the suspects, along with other people still at big, attacked her home and physically attacked her, causing injuries on her.

She declared that the suspects implicated her of witchcraft and incorrectly connected her to the death of one Mr Abayo, a citizen of Agbado-Ekiti.

According to the declaration, the victim went through required nudity and degrading treatment in an open area. The criminals taped the attack and flowed the video on social networks to embarrass and disparage her.

Performing on the petition, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) jailed 5 suspects recognized as Tafa Adesanmi, 60; Fatoba Sola, 65; Hassan Yahaya, 43; Bodunde Adebayo, 32; and Titilayo Toyin, 47. All 5 suspects are locals of Agbado-Ekiti.

The cops stated the suspects were going through examination, while efforts were continuous to nab other people supposedly associated with the event who stayed at big.

The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Falade Micheal, condemned the supposed acts, worrying that the command would not endure jungle justice, mob violence or the illegal flow of material planned to deteriorate, daunt or breach the self-respect of any person.

He stressed that accusations of witchcraft or any other offense did not validate attack, public embarrassment or any type of inhuman or degrading treatment.
