James Gunn has actually discussed the future of the different characters in his 2021″The Suicide Squad “movie, and how they would suit his DC Universe that started with the animated “Creature Commandos”and in 2015’s”Superman”.
The DC Studios co-head has done a podcast entitled “The Suicide Squad: Is It Canon?” in which he and his wife/co-host Jennifer Holland addressed fan concerns. Initially slated to launch tomorrow, the complete episode was launched by Spotifywhich identified it as a trailer.
Up, it’s verified that the movie is now formally canon and, retroactively, the very first movie in the DC Universe:
“I believe that The Suicide Squad is within the canon of the DCU. It’s chosen. I ‘d state we have one little asterisk, which is exactly what is the future of Harley Quinn. I wish to be provided a little freedom with this by the fans due to the fact that I’m unsure precisely how that’s going to manifest itself. Other than that, I believe we can quite much state the whole motion picture is canon. I do not believe there’s an issue.”
Perhaps someone is going to pertain to me on Threads, and I accept the obstacles in attempting to address them … we’re going to make errors in this film and in other films, however for one of the most part, I believe it really fits far more quickly into canon than Peacemaker Season 1. Not just is The Suicide Squad canon, however it’s the very first canon movie in the DCU.”
He then goes on to discuss the future of these characters within the DC Universe. Here’s a breakdown of his prepare for specific characters:
Harley Quinn
With “The Suicide Squad” now canon, does that mean Margot Robbie is Harley Quinn in the DCU? That’s up to the starlet.
He confesses: “Harley is really among the harder things in this to validate as being canon in the DCU,” specifically as her relationship with The Joker is extremely particular and the DCU’s take on The Joker hasn’t been developed.
That stated, he calls Robbie “among my preferred stars to deal with” which “she is so great in the film. I like her as Harley. I do not understand if she wishes to play Harley once again. She might be over that.”
He continues: “I do not understand where Margot’s head is with all of this. Harley is a character I’m probably going to utilize in the DCU, and if Margot wishes to play her, then I’ll flex over in reverse to discuss that worldwide. If she does not, then I may go with someone else, where I do not have actually to be connected to what takes place to Harley in this motion picture.”
Polka-Dot Man
He verifies a prequel television series about David Dastmalchian’s Abner Krill/Polka-Dot Man has actually “been talked about” however is “not in active advancement”. He states the program would’ve had to do with his household– a S.T.A.R. Labs researcher mom who made her numerous kids superpowered.
He includes that “we’ve spoken about it due to the fact that I believe it would be fascinating to see what occurred to the rest of his household. Where did they go, and what were they like at that time?”
Amanda Waller
A “Waller” series was formerly revealed as remaining in advancement, however there’s been no genuine upgrade in years. Gunn provided one today, stating starlet Viola Davis wish to return and the task is still (hardly) alive: “Viola wishes to continue. We were highly establishing a Waller reveal that we never ever greenlit since it didn’t get to where we desired it to be. That does not imply it’s absolutely out of advancement.”
Gunn states the DCU Batman casting procedure is moving rapidly and the character will be the exact same age as David Corenswet’s Superman.
