Intro for October 14, 2026

Dear Gossips,

I am still so mad about Shane Gillis hosting SNL for the THIRD time and continuing to be SO bad it—like literally each of his monologues is TERRIBLE—and like Lainey, I am clinging to Rosalía’s performances as an all-time highlight. (Related, have you seen Rosalía’s performance of “Berghain” at the BRIT Awards from earlier this year? Her stage artistry is so great that it is a seamless moment when Björk emerges, and Björk basically made her career by NOT being seamless.)

But I disagree with Lainey about Lorne Michaels, I don’t think he’s just trolling, I think he genuinely believes Shane Gillis is funny and talented and he’s still mad that he had to fire Gillis in 2019 after Gillis said a bunch of racist sh-t on his podcast. Also, I am still waiting for someone to explain the punchline of Gillis’s joke (“joke”) about gym clothes. “Have you seen women at the gym lately? They dress like whores now” is a setup. Where’s the punchline, SHANE?

Anyway, Keri Russell and Allison Janney are the balm my tired spirit needs. They were at an event at SAG-Aftra in New York yesterday, bumping The Diplomat’s fourth season, which drops tomorrow on Netflix. It looks so juicy. Everyone is upset yet so glamorous.

It will never happen because the executives just aren’t that cool anymore, but can you IMAGINE the crossover we could get from The Diplomat and Slow Horses? If these were network shows thirty years ago, it would absolutely happen for sweeps week. I miss sweeps week.

Keri looked very chic in a sweater and shorts combo I envy for this unusually warm autumn weather we’re having:

I am trying not to let jackass men ruin my autumn, my second favorite time of the year (first favorite is, of course, the liminal space between Christmas and New Year’s), and Keri Russell is doing the goddess’s work, out here talking about how much crazy sex she and Matthew Rhys were having while making The Americans.

This is why I will not get sucked into internet speculation about their relationship. I will need to see the actual divorce decree if they ever should separate, because I fully believe those two are primed like bunnies. Yes, they’ve been together for over a decade at this point, and yes, things change in middle age, but I just don’t think those two have lost IT. I don’t care what he does or doesn’t say in an acceptance speech or if she walks a red carpet alone. Because a week later, one or both of them will be talking about their sex life. In more than a decade, that has not changed. Everything else went to sh-t, but Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell stay nuts about each other. Unless I just jinxed them.
