Basketball
The previous week has actually totally altered Kansas basketball’s outlook for the 2026-27 season. In the period of simply a week, the Jayhawks might possibly restore 2 essential gamers from in 2015’s lineup.
They’ve currently gotten word from Tre White that he ‘d be going back to the university for a 5th season, and it was exposed the other day that Melvin Council Jr. might do the same. Both Jayhawks were approved initial injunctions by different judges and are instantly qualified to complete in the upcoming project up until additional notification.
What was formerly believed to be a set-in-stone rotation for Bill Self has actually become an enigma in current days. Which Jayhawk will make his method to the 2nd system to open an area for White? And if Council returns, where does he suit the lineup?
There’s still lots of time before the routine season starts, and we aren’t even sure if Council will certainly be returning to Lawrence. This is KU’s predicted beginning 5 presuming he does.
Backcourt: Melvin Council Jr., Leroy Blyden Jr., Tre White
Despite sticking around concerns surrounding Council’s boundary shooting and shot-making, he ‘d be a foolproof addition to the beginning

To assist relieve the spacing interest in Council, Toledo transfer Leroy Blyden Jr. is the most likely prospect to slot in as the other combination guard and include another ball-handler to the flooring. He shot 40.7%from beyond the arc on 5.6 efforts per video game in 2015, making him among the most hazardous outdoors shooters on the lineup.
In White, the Jayhawks get a veteran 3-and-D wing who can play off the ball or put it on the flooring. He brings an unrivaled level of experience to this beginning system, having actually dipped into several high-major schools throughout his prolonged college profession.
Frontcourt: Tyran Stokes, Keanu Dawes
This is still up in the air because other choices like Trey Kaufman-Renn are on the board, however a small-ball method is the most likely path that KU takes with its beginning lineup. That does not indicate centers Christian Reeves and Paul Mbiya will not see their reasonable share of minutes; rather, this develops more chances for lineup versatility and to keep the beginners fresh.

The Jayhawks have not run a small-ball center because KJ Adams in 2022-23, however Self requires to put his finest gamers on the flooring throughout crunch time. Leaving among the 3 previously mentioned backcourt gamers on the bench to open the video game merely isn’t favorable to success.
Clearly, Tyran Stokes is the crown gem of the 2026 recruiting class and is just a “frontcourt” piece by technicality. He is a point forward who can do whatever he is asked on the court, making him a genuinely positionless gamer.
Newbie Keanu Dawes’ performance history makes him an affordable prospect to perform at the 5 at 6-foot-9, 225 pounds. Dawes ended up last season at Utah with a 28.8% protective rebounding rate, ranking in the 98th percentile nationally. What he does not have as a rim protector is balanced out by his elite abilities on the glass.
We’re not ruling anything out here, and Mbiya or Reeves might begin due to size issues. We’ll learn in due time if utilizing Dawes as the center works, however it is at least worth thinking about if you’re Coach Self.Take a look at theKCSN main siteand follow us onFacebookXandInstagramfor the current KU basketball and football news.
