A group of quick-thinking students in Pennsylvania is being credited with stopping a moving school bus as its driver was having a medical emergency.

Surveillance video released by the Hollidaysburg Area School District captured the students’ heroic efforts on Sept. 18 as the bus was dropping off children at the end of a school day.
In the clip, students are disembarking from the vehicle when it starts drifting forward. A girl preparing to get off turns around and asks the driver, “Oh, can I get home?”
At that moment, she and another student at the front of the bus realize that the driver, slumped at the wheel, is having a medical emergency.
Alerted by a friend, Alexis Smith, who was sitting in the first row behind the exit, rushes over to help.
“During the time I stepped on the brake, I hit like, a metal pole,” Alexis recalled to Good Morning America.

Students take swift action
Then another student, identified as Skyla Horton, jumps in to pull the parking brake as Alexis steps on the brake pedal and checks on the driver’s pulse.

“I pulled the parking brake and then I opened the bus door for more airflow for the bus driver,” Skyla said.
Once the bus comes to a stop, another student — identified by local media as Travis Zerby — uses the bus radio to call for help, while another student dials 911 on her phone.
The driver has since recovered and was cleared to drive again, WTAJ reported.
Alexis told Good Morning America that her bus driver likes to joke about the incident, calling her “our hero.”
