PGL Major Singapore Invites: How the November 2 VRS Cutoff Works

Thirty-two groups will play the PGL Major Singapore from November 24 to December 13, and every invite is settled by the Valve Regional Standings (VRS) on November 2. According to HLTV, Europe gets 18 locations, the Americas 9 and Asia-Pacific 5, and the phase each group goes into depends upon its rank inside its own area.

How the 32 locations are split

Each area ranks its qualified groups on the November 2 cutoff. The leading piece avoids directly to Stage 3, the next group begins in Stage 2, and the rest start in Stage 1.

Area Phase 3 (direct) Phase 2 Phase 1 Overall
Europe 6 6 6 18
Americas 2 1 6 9
Asia-Pacific 0 1 4 5
All areas 8 8 16 32

Just 8 of the 32 groups avoid to Stage 3, and half of the field, 16 groups, begins in Stage 1. Europe alone fills 18 of the 32 locations (56 percent), the Americas 28 percent and Asia-Pacific 16 percent. That is why ranking areas near a local border bring a lot weight: one location alters the phase a group gets in, and with it the variety of series it should win to reach the playoffs.

What altered from the Cologne Major

HLTV lists 3 modifications from the IEM Cologne Major. Europe gets another invite, 18 rather of 17, after the area’s lead to Cologne. The Americas lose one location, dropping from 10 to 9, however their direct Stage 3 invites double from one to 2. Asia-Pacific keeps 5 locations, yet its top-ranked qualified group now gets in Stage 2 instead of Stage 3.

North and South American groups complete for the exact same Americas locations in one local ranking, so a lead to either half of the continent moves the exact same list.

The Major schedule

Phase Dates
Phase 1 November 24 to 27
Phase 2 November 28 to December 1
Phase 3 December 2 to 6
Playoffs December 10 to 13

The playoffs are held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, with a reward swimming pool of $1,250,000.

Why the last LAN before the cutoff matters

PGL Masters Bucharest, which ends with the grand last on October 31, is the last tier-1 LAN before the cutoff, as our Bucharest results tracker programs. For groups near to a local line, the last Bucharest outcomes can alter which phase a group gets in. HLTV’s welcomes page likewise brings a predicted-teams view, which will move till the standings freeze.
