Sterling dropped in the upcoming Euro24 qualifiers while three Chelsea stars are named.
Gareth Southgate today named his 23 man who will be leading England in the upcoming international games in September which will be qualifiers match for Euro 2024 games. England will play against Ukraine and Scotland.
Long time serving winger Raheem Sterling didn’t receive a call up in the squad. The player had hoped to be in the squad after having a good start this season at Chelsea but according to Gareth Southgate his latest performance was not enough to earn him a call-up as it is believed the summing up of last season’s performance and the current one could have played a major role in his selection. The England coach defended his decision by saying that “It’s a difficult call. Raheem isn’t particularly happy about it and I understand that. I’m convinced he’s going to have an excellent season at Chelsea.”
Three players from Chelsea were also called up in the squad where Levi Colwill got a shocking call up as he was handed his first call up to the team after a continuing good run of performance including winning the under 21 euros. Ben Chilwell was also called up after missing up the world cup due to injuries. Chilwell will cover up the void left by Luke Shaw who suffered an injury. The last Chelsea player who was named was conor Gallagher who recently hasn’t missed any call up in the squad.
