“This one has been in the family for a long time,” says LeBron James, welcoming us into his and his wife’s Los Angeles home in a new installment of Vogue’s Objects of Affection video series. The piece he’s talking about? It’s not a family heirloom or the comfiest chair in the living room—it’s a hyperbaric chamber.
The chamber is a vital part of LeBron’s postgame recovery and a place of refuge, but this particular one is a no-go for Savannah. “It’s a little bit too small and claustrophobic for my wife,” he says. “For me, I don’t mind jumping into this little cocoon here and reaping the benefits.” Among the benefits? Some peace and quiet. “My ass go to sleep when I get in there. I don’t want to talk to nobody, see nobody, hear from nobody,” LeBron says, as Savannah laughs.
“Sports have taught me so much about life,” LeBron continues, moving on in the tour to show his four NBA championship trophies on the mantel, including his first one with the Miami Heat in 2012. Tonight, LeBron makes his regular-season debut for the Philadelphia 76ers, taking on the Knicks in New York.
LeBron also showcases a beloved Louis Vuitton jean jacket. “We like stuff that feels good and looks good on us—it doesn’t always have to have a label on it,” he says, explaining that without attention to detail, you might not know the jacket was by the designer. “That’s the quiet luxury of it all. We love a quiet luxury moment,” Savannah adds, before showing her “not-so-quiet” Ugg x Palace slides.
Savannah then shares a Cartier Crash skeleton-face watch that she got for LeBron for their anniversary. In September, the high school sweethearts celebrated 13 years of marriage. (But, as Savannah points out, receiving gifts is actually not at the top of the list of their love languages.)
LeBron and Savannah have a few opposites-attract moments in the video. LeBron calls their cold plunge “one of the best places in the house,” and Savannah disagrees. “It’s too cold,” she says, adding that LeBron can stay in it the longest. In the kitchen, they show a dazzling array of treats that they call “Dessert Row,” including rainbow confetti mini-cakes, chocolate cake (“You need a Willy Wonka golden ticket for that,” LeBron quips), and more.
One of their most prized possessions is a Jean-Michel Basquiat piece, “Minor Success,” which LeBron explains is one of the artist’s first works with the crown motif. “It resonated to not only me, but it resonated to our family,” LeBron says. Savannah also shares a bracelet that has their three children’s heartbeats on it, along with LeBron’s initials on the clasp. When she travels, she says, “It’s a reminder that they’re always with me.”
Fittingly, LeBron and Savannah also keep their kids with them when driving in their LeBron James Edition Mercedes-Maybach S 680 car, which has the birthdates of Bronny, Bryce, and Zhuri inscribed inside. “Always got the kids with us,” LeBron says. The car is a special one-of-two edition; the other one is being auctioned off to benefit the LeBron James Family Foundation.
