G2 Esports has actually parted methods with Jacob “valyn” Batio, the in-game leader who assisted bring the company back to significance after years in the wild. The statement showed up on October 27 along with a goodbye video, closing a three-year chapter that started when G2 signed the residues of The Guard’s Ascension-winning lineup in 2023.
The résumé promotes itself: 8 successive global looks, 4 VCT Americas prizes, and the 2025 season in which G2 ended up being the first string to win all 3 local titles in the Americas. They completed runners-up at Masters Bangkok 2025 and made the leading 4 at Champions Shanghai 2026, where 100 Thieves removed them on October 16. G2’s own social post summed it up with an accuracy that stung: “8 straight international appearances, 4 VCT Americas trophies, 1 legendary IGL”
Valyn’s own bye-bye was more individual. “All good things come to an end, and honestly, the last three, four years with these guys have been amazing,” he stated in a video published to X. He included that his only remorse was that the group never ever reached “the highest of highs” together. The goodbye was thoughtful, however the subtext was clear: this lineup had actually taken G2 as far as it could.
What follows for G2
The lineup presently notes jawgemo, BABYBAY, trent, and leaf, with Ambrose as supervisor and JoshRT as head coach. BABYBAY is likewise reported to be en route out, and G2 is supposedly surrounding Leviatán’s Eduardo “Sato” Nagahama and Francisco “kiNgg” Aravena, with kiNgg anticipated to take control of the IGL function. Valyn’s next location isn’t main, however several reports connect him to Fnatic ahead of VCT 2027. Valyn didn’t verify any of it; He just provided a tease: “I’m excited for you guys to see what’s next for me because I think it’s something that will reignite me as a player”For a gamer who invested 3 years as the stable hand on a group that constantly appeared one series short, a clean slate makes good sense.
The neighborhood saw the last dance coming
G2’s 2026 season ended with the company calling it “our last dance” in Shanghai, and fans had actually been bracing for this considering that reports of a lineup overhaul appeared in September. VLR.gg threads on the departure are a mix of resignation and real unhappiness. “Not a G2 fan, but I like Valyn and Trent, sad to see that duo is over,” one user composed. Another was more blunt: “Just kill me, bro”
The Valyn period provided G2 4 local titles and a long-term location in the Americas discussion. It didn’t provide the global prize they invested 3 years chasing after, and now G2 needs to change it.
