3 Key Vikings On Defense vs. Packers

The Minnesota Vikings begin the 2026 season with a home video game versus their department matches the Green Bay Packers. After taking a look at 3 essential Vikings on offense for this video game, it’s time to take a look at the opposite of the ball.

Sports news 3 Key Vikings On Defense vs. Packers

The Brian Flores defense was the strength of this group in 2015, and while Minnesota will be expecting much better from their offense in 2026. The defense will still have a significant function to play. Here are 3 guys I believe will have especially essential functions in this video game.

Sports news Jalen Redmond

With Josh Jacobs missing out on for Green Bay, the Packers are left without a significant centerpiece in their offense. Developing the run is a huge part of their offense and without Jacobs, they will need to depend on a mix of MarShawn Lloyd, Chris Brooks, and Kaleb Johnson. The Vikings require to close down this supporting cast of running backs and require the ball into the hands of Packers QB Jordan Love.

As the primary guy on the interior of the protective line, Jalen Redmond requires to lead that charge and be dominant in run defense. Redmond has actually been a discovery considering that getting here in Minnesota 2 years ago through a stint in the UFL. If the Vikings have the ability to stop the run, Redmond will likewise have a function in getting after the quarterback, such is his capability in both stages of the defense. He is an indispensable gamer for the Vikings and in his 2nd season as a starter, I wish for him to kick on even further.

Sports news Dallas Turner

There is a great deal of pressure on Dallas Turner to step up this year. Minnesota revealed a great deal of faith in their third-year, previous first-round choice when they traded away Jonathan Greenard and thrust Turner into position as the group’s leading pass rush. After a rough novice season, Turner got in 2015, particularly when Greenard was missing through injury, and led the group with 8 sacks. The concern this year is whether he leads the group for a complete season and gets the sack figure into double figures, which is where you ‘d anticipate top-tier edge rushes to be.

Sunday sees the very first take a look at Turner as “the guy” and the pressure will be on. He possibly has a beneficial match as he meets a Packers offending line that has 3 beginners on the injury report today, consisting of both beginning deals with. Sticking around injuries that have actually seen the Packers offending linenot able to contend or practice together over the preseason are a significant issue presently in Green Bay. It’s an opportunity to begin the season off with a bang and if Turner can take it, he will put the Vikings well en route to a success.

Sports news Harrison Smith

He took his time however ultimately Harrison Smith returned for his 15th season as a Viking. The Hitman brings a wealth of experience and football intelligence to the Vikings’ defense. The concern is what the 37-year-old variation of Smith who lost out on all of training school and preseason appears like. There’s no escaping the reality that he’s not the gamer he as soon as was, however can he preserve a sensible requirement in protection and coming downhill to make takes on or hurry the passer?

If he can then his management and football IQ will still be an important part of what Flores desires his defense to do. If the Vikings can stop the run then the secondary requirements to be sharp versus Green Bay’s passing attack. I do anticipate Smith to slot right back into his every-down function and we will see if he’s still up to it on Sunday.

Happy UK Viking. Married man. Take pleasure in blogging about my group. Far from football a supporter for autism approval.
