Former Ghanaian International striker died after collapsing during league match.
Former Ghanaian International striker Raphael Dwamena died on Saturday after collapsing during an Albanian super league Match.
The Albanian football federation confirmed the death of the 28yrs old Raphael Dwamena.
A video circulated online appeared to show the 28yrs old striker falling over the field in the 24th minute of the match by himself. Dwamena’s Egnatia was playing against Partizani.
Others players rushed over and, despite immediate medical intervention, the Albanian football federation confirmed the sad news that Dwamena had passed away.
The game was stopped at 1-1 with no further play.
Raphael was the current top goalscorer in the Albanian Super league this season with 9 goals.
Raphael Dwamena had 8 caps with the Black stars scoring twice. “The Ghana football Association is sad to hear the death of our former player Raphael Dwamena and wish to express our deepest condolences to his family at this difficult times. ” – Ghanaian FA
Reports indicates that Raphael may have succumb due to heart problems, earlier in 2021 on game time in Austria with Blau-veis Lenz he collapsed and was hospitalized with heart problems.
Real Zaragoza installed a defibrillator in 2020, which saved his life a year later in a match with BW Linz.
Dr. Josep Brugada advised him to retire in 2019. Today he died while playing with a device in his heart.
Brighton ruled out signing him in 2017 due to heart problems. He is the second most expensive signing in the history of Levante (€6,200,000).
Raphael Dwamena played for Levante and Real Zaragoza in Spain. He has also played in Denmark and Switzerland.
