Neale copping boos

If the pre-game is anything to go by, Lachie Neale is a certainty to be booed during this game.
As the ground announcer ran through every player from both sides, their images flashing on the big screen, there were cheers all round – except when it came to Brisbane No.9.
Those boos have continued during the match, the Freo fans added some bronx cheers for Neale when he missed a shot for goal.

Draper puffs out his chest

Lions ruckman Sam Draper has marked a kick fron Andrews and kicked a goal from 50m out.
Draper is another former Bomber who has kicked a goal in this match joining Voss and McKenna.
The Dons finished down the end of the ladder but they’ve expats have kicked a stack of goals in the first half.

Voss kicks his second

The Prancing Pony has struck again.
Patrick Voss has taken a strong mark and kicked a goal from the left pocket for the Dockers.
He missed a shot a few minutes before but this time he saluted and becomes the first player to two goals in this match. Voss has his arms raised to the MCG.

Freo fans unhappy with umpiring

“There were some poor referee choices in that first quarter,” Dockers fan James Orie said from the heart of Fremantle.
As Fremantle continue to match the Lions, fans in the Cappuccino Strip are only getting louder.
“We have some anxiety coming in, some anxious moments are happening. But we have to hold onto it,” Orie said.
Despite originally being a West Coast fan, Orie said a Fremantle win would be great for all of Western Australia.
“I used to be an Eagles fan but I’ve jumped onto the Freo bandwagon because WA is WA and if one of us wins, we all win.”

Ashcroft strikes back for Lions

This is turning into a high-octane match as Levi Ashcroft runs onto the footy and kicks a goal for the Lions.
Charlie Cameron won the ball earlier in the play for the Lions, and is making a case for the Norm Smith Medal, although it is still early.

Amiss responds for Dockers

The rain has slowed at the MCG and the teams are playing a much more expansive style now.
Jye Amiss is the latest Docker to hit the scoreboard – he is a form player, so if he is firing and confident then goals will follow.

McKenna with another freakish goal

Lions forward Conor McKenna, another ex-Essendon player, has come up with yet another miraculous goal – this one might even be better than his goal of the year winner.
McKenna has a knack for the uncanny. The Irishman has done a number of freakish things this season, especially in the finals, as Jon Pierik and Danny Russell documented for us earlier this week.

‘Prancing Pony’ salutes

Recycled Essendon forward Patrick Voss has kept Lions skipper Harris Andrews to no touches in the opening term and now he’s marked and kicked a goal.
One of his coaches nicknamed Voss “the Prancing Pony” for the way he struts around after he kicks a goal.
So watch the big man prance.

An even start

This is such an even contest to quarter-time, with Fremantle slightly ahead in contested ball (37-36) and the Lions up in disposals (93-91), and clearances level (10-10).
Fremantle were stiff in that last mark that was not paid to Josh Treacy for the ball not carrying 15 metres. It was hard to tell if that was right, certainly it was close.
Brisbane’s Charlie Cameron is a clear and present danger. He was initially matched to Luke Ryan, who doesn’t have that speed or agility.
The Dockers should be happy with their start, even though they trail by a point, because they’re less experienced and need to withstand the early fury from the Lions.
Murphy Reid’s class was on display for the Dockers and Treacy is looking far more dangerous than in the first few finals this year.
Will Ashcroft has been superb, as you’d expect. It’s a grand final.
