Alabama Football Announces Huge Contract Extension For Their Top Professional
Alabama Football’s mission of replacing Nick Saban will be nearly difficult, but the Crimson Tide don’t seem to think Kalen DeBoer will be the best long-term solution. It was revealed on Monday that DeBoer’s contract’s final details, which comprise the following, had been finalized:
contract with an expiration date of December 31, 2031, for eight years
The compensation in year one will be $10 million, and in the last year of the deal, it will progressively rise to $11,750,000.
In 2024, the buyout will be $5 million, followed by $4 million in 2025, $3 million in 2026, and $0 following bonuses of up to $875,000 for winning a national championship.
With the deal, DeBoer will rank fourth in the country in terms of salary among coaches, behind Steve Sarkisian of Texas, Kirby Smart of Georgia, and Dabo Swinney of Clemson.

Texas A&M and Other Universities Teach Alabama Football
Regardless of the person they appointed, Alabama was going to pay a big salary to its next head coach. After Nick Saban left, the last thing they wanted to do was withhold funding and give the impression that they weren’t quite sure about the incoming head coach. By offering DeBoer a deal for a whopping $87 million, Alabama conveys to supporters their unwavering belief in their ability to dominate both the SEC and collegiate football in general.
The Crimson Tide, on the other hand, have structured the deal to cost them only $12 million at worst, but realistically only $7 million since the Tide won’t be firing DeBoer before the end of one season, unlike other schools that have made massive deals (Texas A&M) that didn’t meet expectations but were left with a massive buyout. It’s probable that Alabama gave DeBoer two options: the one he ultimately signed had a huge payoff but a very low buyout, while the other had a greater buyout but a lesser total payout.
