After more than 24,000 photos from all over the world were sent into the popular competitors, the Bird Photographer of the Year winners have actually been exposed.
And it was a British snapper who declared the ₤ 3,000 cash prize this year with an amazing submission from under water.
Henley Spiers was called grand prizewinner after recording a gannet mid-dive as it plunges into Scottish waters looking for victim at speeds of approximately 86km/h (53mph).
Mr Spiers stated of his image, called Sunball Rocket, and competitors success: ‘The good-looking northern gannets lead a dualistic presence.
‘In the nest, their newborn is thoroughly supported, and a couple’s bond is strengthened by pointing sharp beaks to the sky as they tenderly stroke their white necks together.
‘In flight, searching mode takes control of, and piercing yellow eyes, fringed with blue circles, search the sea for victim.
‘When fish are spotted, the gannets fly into the wind and extend their wings as brakes, specifically changing their position in relation to their quarry.
‘Moments later on, with wings embeded securely, the gannet shape-shifts into a pointed torpedo, diving into the water at speeds of as much as 86km/h.’
